Time to paint the pillars at the cemetery their first coat of primer! As it turned out, the only thing that really got covered in paint were the volunteers! The day was so very windy that we ended up stopping after the first coat of paint was on. Even though we ended up stopping early, the paint that was applied was a vast improvement to the way the pillars looked before we began.

We signed up for another day of helping out at the marathon. The day was extremely hot (the car read an outside temp of 91 degrees) and the marathon was eventually called off due to weather. This caused the finish line area to be really hopping! We again were in charge of the trash bins and recycling containers for the area. The kids made sure they wore sunscreen and hats to keep the sun at bay. Even though we took precautions, we were still very tired after our shifts were done. It was nice when the runners thanked us for helping out.
Mike Steinberger (lodge president) scored 25 tickets for our youth group to attend an indoor football game. Our group started to make calls and by Saturday night all the tickets were accounted for - amazing how quickly these kids can pull something together! They all met at our house to figure out car arrangements and then they were off. They arrived at the Resch Center and received GB Blizzard hats! The kids danced every time the team got a first down and even made it on the Jumbotron! Unfortunately the Blizzard team was defeated that evening, but the kids all stayed after the game to get autographs. A very successful event for the Yell Group - hopefu
There was a need by the Junior Achievers group to have volunteers at the Cellcom Marathon. A couple of the yell members signed up to help. We arrived and picked up our t-shirts and got to work. Our job consisted of cleaning up the trash, emptying the trash bins and recycling bins. The day was HOT! We spent about 4 hours helping out and then headed off to Dairy Queen for a treat!
We have another cemetery project that we are working on. The small cemetery behind Smith Country Sales has pillars that are in need of painting and repairs. The group spent a few hours scraping paint off of the pillars and ancellary buildings. They plan on repainting over Memorial Day weekend.
The group arrived at the park ready to get to work. We had a few new people show up to help and hopefully they will continue to join us on events in the future. Counting the Lodge members, the Yell group and the Scouts, we had about 90 people in attendance - another great turnout! We started off the morning by pulling garlic mustard out of the park for about an hour. There were many bags pulled by all the volunteers. There was a great lunch provided by WFLA followed by tours of the park. It was great seeing the signs made by member Nick Kolarik (eagle project), unfortunately vandals had torn off two of the signs. Fortunately we found the signs and they are able to be repaired. It is always amazing to see how much the caves have changed due to the great work done by the spelunkers
Some of the group attended the wfla District 2 Meeting. They had a lovely meal and a good meeting. The group was recognized by the State Director as being the first youth organization in wfla. The kids are looking forward to Maribel Caves next week!
The group enjoyed spending time together at the Booster Club Packers Basketball Game. Not all the events they attend are geared towards community service. One of the objectives of the group is to build friendships and bonds that will carry on in the future. Having fun is all part of being in this group! Members in attendace included Liz Kolarik, Aundrea Tilot, Lindsey Bosetski, Kayla Kudick, Celia Kolarik & Amanda Tilot.
